Definitely time to go! You are in a great position financially and could put the additional time to great use by brushing up your music knowledge........ ;-)
(The Clash were not a "pop" group..........)0 -
yes the clash, i remember now. many thanks. lets hope my financial planning is better than my pop knowledge!!!!
It seems to me you should be Walking on the beaches (not looking at the peaches )Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Time for the final curtain (in the nicest possible way of course)0

Were only making plans for bigfer, and yes, I did work for British steel. Damn that music was good!Space available for rent0

It made me feel better that even people with that much money have to endure personal reviews and ethics trainingThe word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
Money is only one aspect of enjoying a long and satisfying retirement. Make sure you spend equally as long on other factors.0

Think you should go,,that's fantastic numbers, do the right think and wake up tomorrow without the alarm clock signalling work time......You are in a great position, have worked very hard to achieve that. Remove the corporate BS and start enjoying time with your wife and family? Breathe and take the next step, your there, no more home straight......0

I really enjoyed reading this thread and it did resonate with me. I am 55 so have gone through that magic barrier.
I have a similar "number" in mind as the OP. I have very little in the way of DB pensions but a larger Sipp and also a couple of properties. I could go now, but I have decided to stay full time for another 6 months and pass go and collect. After that I intend to go part time (say 3 days) for another year or so and stop paying into my Pension , so I will have about the same take home pay.
Some of the thinking is that my kids who have just started working (2 with good degrees) are working so hard and are earning about a third of what I get. They also then have to spend most of what hey get on rent and travel. So a few more years from me can make a big difference to them if I help them out.
A more selfish reason to keep working is that I can see myself being sucked into being a carer for some of my elderly and sick extended family.
I also seem to go against the view that life will be cheaper when retired. I live near to work so have no travel costs to save, they also provide a discounted canteen, health insurance, Critical illness cover, life insurance and travel insurance. Plus they give me a Laptop and a mobile phone. I work from home 1 day a week so use that to plan all deliveries.
So since I got to the situation when I could retire, I have felt I did not want to so desperately. The BS is still there (pretending things are good when they are not) but I think I am enjoying executing my plan and being a bit detached (though pretending to be engaged!).0 -
..the other option, (when you know you can go at anytime) is to carry on working but "have a bit of fun" with it....the worst they can do is fire you,. (..and then only after 3 verbal / written warnings, so plenty of time to wind up the bosses with a bit of blue sky thinking..I would run it up the flag pole and see who salutes..
.. )
.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0
