Saying "maximum no claims" isn't really a very useful statement. Each insurance company will have a different maximum number of years no claims discount they will offer. So the number of actual years is the important thing and not that they are at that specific companies maximum.
Given most only allow 9 as a maximum I don't see how that matters.
But if it will help you answer the question work on 32 years.0 -

I guess that was rhetorical but.....
You could try Abbey or Police Insure who specialise in policies for serving or ex job.0 -

Actually it does vary a bit and I've seen people mention limits as low as 5 and my current insurer have a limit of 20. But whatever you have i very much doubt your policy documents will say you have 32 years.
The point i was making is sometimes people who don't understand the system say they have "maximum" no claims and don't check their renewal documents so end up declaring an incorrect number to their next insurance company, which can end up with problems if they ask for proof. So i thought i was worth mentioning.0 -
How many drivers are there? I assume to get 2 cars with 2x full NCDs there's 2 owners?
There is only one owner (me) and one driver (me).
To the OP, I found that my existing insurer (Direct line) more competitive than the comparison sites when adding the third vehicle as I already had the other two with them and they gave some kind of discount for the no claims I had - I did not acquire any "NCD years" on the third through that, just got a discount on the price.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

I'm fully aware of how the no claims works, hence my original question as I know it can't be used on two cars.0 -

It's a bit of a wild goose chase trying to find an insurer who would allow you to use your NCD on both cars. NCD isn't controlled in any way and each insurer is free to make up their own rules on how they issue it and accept it (for example in the past i have got 1 years NCD on a 10 month policy).
So this means even if you could use it on a multicar policy where they said they applied it to both cars it may not be cheapest.
So to answer your original question to get the best price you simply need to:
1. Use a few comparison sites and check the insurance for each car with and without your NCD applied. This will then let you see which car you should use the NCD on to get the best price.
2. Try every multi car provider you can find and get quotes.
Compare the prices you have been quoted and see which policy/s offers the best overall price and then take out the insurance.
It may take a little bit of time but it's the only way to definitively find the best overall price.0 -
Well, it’s all sorted now.
In the end I took out a new policy with zero no claims with came in cheaper than quotes I’d had with 9 plus years bonus. It cost me £40 a year more than my current policy taken out last year with full no claims.
Over all I’m happy and getting the new wheels on Friday.0 -
Ask your current Insurer if they will mirror your no-claims. So do, some don't, some do only for good risks. I insure with Axa and know they do. So my 20 year + no claims applies to my 3rd car, 4th car and any subsequent cars I buy and insure. The man without a signature.0

They won't so I will not be renewing with them next month.0
