Extending my house to the side?

I am thinking of adding a double extension to the side of my 3 bed house to gain a single bedroom and making the bathroom twice the size. It will also make the hallway bigger and double the size of the kitchen. The only downside is that it will replace the side drive way and make the garage inaccessible which is only used as a big shed at the moment anyway. My question is will it add value to the house as a four bed and no garage or rear drive way access.

It would potentially turn into a terrace as we are in a block of two at the moment, so that is a good point. Another idea would be to leave a metre between the side fence and the house to give bicycle access. My plan is to gain an extra bedroom for all three of my children to have their own room, and gain a lot more space in the bathroom and kitchen.0

It isn't everyone who wants a house with a long thin bedroom over what used to be the driveway.0

Another good point, also what would be a rough cost of doing this work if anyone knows? A point to note would be that we would still have a big front drive way with space for four cars so we wouldn't be sacrificing any massive off road parking space.0

It would put me off buying it as a requirement for any house I own is a garage and plenty of parking. But not everyone shares that requirement.0

It will put as many off as it will attract. Profit on sale? Unlikely, really. Extensions have to really work to achieve much profit; jammed in bits tend to detract.0

I think a lot depends on whether you can design the extension in such a way that it looks like it was always there. This wil be more expensive since it will involve giving the extension a pitched roof, plus possibly other features to match the existing house.0

The council would not likely approve this. Most if not all councils will request a 1m gap on the first floor to prevent the terracing effect. Most people do prefer to maintain a side access on the ground floor as well.0 -
Would it be feasible to bring the garage forward bedroom above an extension on the back of the property, ( sorry I'm not good at visualising space) keep the best of everything, a garage or road back access is important to us as we have motorbikes to house, so it would probably be a no go for most that have motorbikes or classic cars to house, it would also give rise to the opportunity for someone else to convert in future into another room that would be an added selling point, especially with more multi generations sharing properties nowadays.0

Would it still be possible to access the back garden on foot other than by walking through the house? For me that would be a bigger negative than losing the garage.0
