How best to protect girlfriends financial position?

If this worries you, can't you just move a load of assets into her name? Move cash to her accounts and make her owner of the house and/or buy to let but you continue to contribute to the mortgage.
I'm in a similar position in the sense that I have two children and have been with my partner for seven years and we are unmarried. We have just split our assets evenly and keep our pensions equal. Although we do not have the inequality of one of us being a higher rate earner while the other is not. We will likely get married if one of us gives up work to raise the children.0 -

This. Marry before second child.
If you dont, make a will in her favour. Fill out expressions of wishes for any and all pensions. Pay into a pension for her, the faff is worth it if you love her.0 -
Don't forget to invite the local football team to the wedding - those guys will make the party go with a massive bang!0

2 rules I’ve learnt....
Don’t get married
Don’t have kids
You have broken one, don’t break the other!!0
