Rejected goods storage

So, Im in the throws of rejecting a tumble dryer within the 30 day window. The dryer is obviously bulky and i dont have room to store it. I'd like to be able to say "Theres no room in the house, the item will be stored under a tarp in the garden, please come and get it within 7 days", but I have a couple of questions;

1. What are my obligations in terms of storage conditions
2. how long is it reasonable to store for
3. if i have to store it somewhere else, can i charge fees?

    You have to take 'reasonable' care of it. If leaving it outside is likely to result on damage or diminishing of value then you could be held liable

    What 30 day window are you rejecting it under?

    1) You have to take reasonable care of the item. Storing it outside would not be taking reasonable care.

    2) What do the T&C's state in regards to returning the item? I'm presuming this is under the companies returns policy and not under any act such as the Consumer Rights Act?

    3) Nope.
  • More details... the item is faulty, so its being rejected under the consumer rights act.

    Im aware of the need to store it 'reasonably', but given thats its bulky, thats not reasonable for more than a few days. hence questions 2 & 3.
  • When you say you are "in the throws" of rejecting it, have you actually rejected it yet. What has the retailer said about it's return?

    I would personally say its reasonable to wait upto a week for collection. However, even if it takes a bit longer, storing it outside would be a huge no-no. Also regardless of how long it is, you can't charge for storage, not unless the retailer agrees to this.

    Also, depending on the retailer, some might send round a technician first to confirm the item is actually faulty.
