Hi All,
Bit of advice needed I have an ok gas fire which I would like to keep, but the mantelpiece/surroundings are old. Who would I need to remove all that would a gas engineer be needed as Im not removing the gas fire. Advice will be helpful.
Also another question my sockets in my old house are on the skirting boards, is installing a new socket
above the skirting quiet costly whats the average cost.
Thanks

It may not need a gas engineer but I would think it prudent. None of the surround is gas related and can be pulled off and replaced DIY. The hearth is what might affect the gas fire itself if it gets pulled about. It depends largely on whether the hearth extends under the gas fire. That said, you don't want a leak from having moved things about a bit and so it would be prudent to disconnect and refit properly.
You don't often see sockets on skirting anymore. I'd suspect that an electrician would be recommending a rewire above moving the existing sockets.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
