!! First time buyer/insurer !!

Hey all,

35yr old 1st time car buyer/insurer
Been driving 17yrs

Recommend me a car please !!
How do I get my insurance price lower ?? I heard putting other named drivers with no claims/lots of driving history would help?? Being insured on the work van would this help??

Need to be on the road for max £3.5k

Supercharged V8 Range Rover, ideal first car.

How do you get cheaper insurance? Move to the middle of nowhere where there is nobody to make claims.

I got my 18-y-o on the road in his first car last year for under £2k all-in..buy car (£420), tax (£150) & insurance...the insurance was £1375, me being on as a named driver brought it down from £1800

If you've had a license for that long and been driving the company van, can you ask your employer to talk to their insurance company to see if you can possibly get them to certify a few years' NCD?? Maybe a long shot, but certainly worth a try...

Oh, and Fully Comp is often cheaper than Third Party Fire & Theft or Third Party Only, as counter-intuitive it may seem...

Adding family members will normally lower it, go for fully comp insurance, other cars you are insured to drive can also help (insurers often ask how many cars in the household, do you have access to other cars etc), avoid the typical small 'first car' types like corsas, 207/8 etc, think about a policy that uses a black box. Lots of things help a little bit.

I used to alway add my mum as a named driver. From memory, it knocked about 20% off the premium.

You need to check the other driver’s record though. Adding my wife to my car put my premium up because she had had an at fault claim. Annoyingly, her own premium remained unchanged.

Just proves the point that insurers are a law unto themselves...no consistency at all....
