Proving I did have a mortgage

hi myself and husband tried to unsuccessfully claim PPI on our 1st mortgage with Bank of Scotland in 2001 which we then changed to Abbey for better deal which was a 95% mortgage Both banks claim they cannot find our accounts despite that my husband still banks with the (now) Santander and the account no never changed ....we have been banging our heads about this as we have very little paperwork left after we sold our house (no forward chain)
Any ideas on how to track down info to follow up ..please

You can submit a subject access request to see what records they hold for you.
Your Santander current account number will be different to the mortgage account number.0 -

If you have no paperwork, how certain are you that you had MPPI, and what would be the reasons why you believe it was mis-sold?0
