LLP Funerals used Martin Lewis as a reason to get funeral cover.

Options
Just had a cold call from LLP Funerals (have TPS so will be complaining) The guy said cost of funerals rising etc and "have you heard of Martin Lewis? He's championing the need for funeral cover." At that point I stopped him and asked if they had permission to use the Martin Lewis name, he said he didn't know.

I asked for the company's name before hanging up and blocking the number.

There is an ongoing thread in the the Feedback or Board Policy Forum on MSE/ML exploitation that I think the staff are monitoring - you should maybe copy this in there so they can see/act on it. :)

It's not unlawful to mention someone's name, and what they have said is not untrue. It would be different if they said he recommended them, or even implied that, but (on the information given) that is not the case.

Is Martin Lewis "championing the need for funeral cover"? (as per wording of OP).

That's different from just mentioning his name.

MSE editorial articles certainly advise planning for the inevitable and as Martin's name will forever be associated with this site and his picture is used above such articles, we must presume that he agrees with such advice.

Apologies if I'm missing the subtlety of this post (I don't do subtle very well, I'm afraid!) But I think Martin is recommending planning for the inevitable - I don't think he (or rather this site) is championing the idea of buying what may be a poor value funeral plan when you don't need one at all.

I don't care what happens when I'm dead - in fact I want my executors to dispose of my remains as cheaply as possible - so long as it's lawful.

I absolutely despise the day-time TV adverts you see for "over 50s" funeral plans - they all prey on particular age-groups who were brought up in a time when a "proper" funeral and /or burial were essential, and anything less was a source of "shame".

Again, apologies if I've missed the sub-text of your post, LadyDee, owing to insensitivity!

    +1

I've told my family that (when I'm gone! :D) transplant organisations can have whatever they can use, medical science can have whatever they want, and burn the rest. :)

I admire your sentiment but I don't think transplant organisations would be too happy with my heart, lungs, liver, kidneys etc. But a teaching hospital might be - "This is what happens to your organs if..."
