Has anyone painted their stairs......

I painted my risers with white gloss but was worried about the treads being too slippery so got some non-slip varnish to do them. Very pleased with it but you can't get the varnish any more.

Most paints don't stand up well to being walked over on a regular basis - and stairs and corridors are the worst when it comes to foot traffic.

They're varnished wood anyway so I don't think paint would be any more slippery.

But yes, it's definitely the wear & tear that concerns me, I wouldn't want to do it then find it's driving me mad a year or two from now.

A quick tip - paint alternate treads and when dry, paint the others. This way you can still use the stairs (at a push) before the paint is dry.
