Buying a used car from Trader - My Rights

Hi Guys

Will keep it as short and sweet as possible.

On 9 Oct, I went to look at a car at my local trader in Gosforth, Newcastle. Without naming names, trader was based on a site, made up of several other traders.

Found what I thought was a lovely Renault Scenic (there's probably my first mistake right there), so asked to take it for test drive. Although I did not have the window down (my second mistake), the drive was comfortable, so agreed a price for my automatic 52 Reg Astra, once the chap had "looked" over it... Well, he sat in drivers seat, rolled it forward and back 10 yards, looked under bonnet (come with a small oil leak) on offered me 495 (which possibly was more than I was expecting - but thats another story)

Went back the following day to pay for it and drive it away

On getting the car home my other half took it out, and noticed a knocking on the underside drivers side. Over the past 10 days, we've had it to 3 garages (1 local, 2 halfords), and finally agreed on the CV Joints and possibly Drive Shaft.

Now it came with a 6 month Autoguard Warranty, but Halford's did not seem to think any repairs for the above issue would be covered, as they class it as wear and tear. Since then (Saturday), we've now noticed it something squeals when trying to start the engine.

Now, i'm waiting on a call tomorrow to see what they say about the CV/Driveshaft, but we forget to mention the squealing. As im within my 30 days of purchase what rights do I have in relation to returning the car. Passing the location of said forecourt, I think my Astra has now been moved off site to auctions, so possibly now out of any deal/refund

You should of taken it straight back to the dealer, the warranty would be worthless. Ask for a repair, how much was the car and how old is it? High milage?

Shysters, mostly. Not that it helps, but their end of the market is not good when it comes to getting stuff fixed. Sorry to say it but it's probably going to be a 'fix it and suck it up' situation.
