Betfair Warning- losing on a winning bet

Beware of Betfair terminology. Where Profit actually means Full Return.
I understood Profit to mean on top of the return of the stake money.
But apparently after contacting their chat help, this is their policy.
You can make, winning losing bets. And they allow this, non betting.
ie £2 stake, £1.46 Profit, but also Full Return - Losing on winning bet.

Betting. Mugs game.
That's the only warning you need.0 -
Eh?
Are you saying you back an odds on selection with stake of £2, they give you the £1.46 winnings but they keep the £2 stake?
This is certainly not how it works in my experience.0 -
You’ve not given the full story here. I suspect you don’t really understand gambling.
As a guess you’ve either done one of the following
1) it was a free £2 bet and they didn’t pay out a free bet stake.
2) you’ve gone £1 ew on a very low odds bet and the bet came second so you only got paid out the £1 ew part of the bet.0 -
When I was gambling I once had a £2 bet on the trap challenge at a greyhound meeting....
It ended up a 6 way dead heat (6 runners) and my returns were LESS than my stake (1/6 of £2 going on a 3/1 if I recall correctly = £1.33). Fair enough.
Similar scenario?0 -
What were the odds and who's money was the stake, yours or a free bet0

If a bet wins then you should ALWAYS get the stake returned and then the winnings added. (Unless of course the stake was a free bet, in which case it is returned to the person who staked it - the bookie. The winnings portion should go to the player's account though, albeit probably only available to be used as stakes for future bets and not for cashing out).0
