Is This The Cheapest?

Options
I'm looking to travel from Blackpool to Cupar (Fife) in about three weeks and I've looked on train line and it's showing £99 ish on there, is this a good price?

Also I've never travelled on a train alone before am stressing about getting on the wrong one etc and also leaving my luggage in the rack and having to go away from it as I'll have my laptops in there as well etc if I specify a seat near the luggage rack that would solve that though wouldn't it.

Thanks for any advice

Have a look at splitting your ticket with https://www.ticketclever.com

It will give you all your platform numbers and train times, so just take a note of them with you.
  • Personally (& I stress this is just a personal pov) I never put anything of value in my suitcase. So I would keep my laptops with me in their own carry bag.

As for getting on the wrong train you can usually print out where the trains are going to stop ...what I tend to do is start getting ready to leave the train after I've left the stop prior to the one I need.

Also if you're changing onto a train but not going all the way (ie you need to catch the train that terminates at Z but getting off at D) make sure you know that it is the Z train you need as often only the end destination is advertised on the boards.

How many changes do you think you'll need?

I can't comment on whether the price is good or not, but don't buy via the trainline as they charge a booking fee. Individual train operating companies (e.g Virgin) shoud sell the same tickets but without a booking fee.

Can be done with changes at Preston and Edinburgh so not too bad. £91 is best price I found through National Rail on one ticket.

You may get better prices by booking local Blackpool Preston ticket, Preston Edinburgh then a local Edinburgh to Cupar ticket.

Hopefully the OP will come back.

Ticket splitting is the way to do it and you don't need to compare prices by booking them yourselves. Ticket clever is brilliant for searching for split tickets and doesn't add charges unlike the one MSE link to. You book and pay as normal and collect at the station. What I like is they tell you which rail company train and destination you need to take at each station.

I found £78 for 3 weeks time, changing at Preston and Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy.

Or later in the day with changes at Preston and Haymarket and for £66.

Can't comment on your ticket price. I check my journey on the BR site, times and prices, and get my ticket from my local station, 2 - 3 weeks in advance. The prices vary depending on the time you want to travel. I will aim for off peak as there is a big difference.

I will not let my luggage out of my sight on a train, even if it means stuffing it between my legs and wedging me in my seat. If that's not possible I will stand and guard it.

Or put it on the rack above your seat. Only the largest bags have to go in the racks at the ends of the coach. Keep phones and laptops with you but you don't need to guard a bag of clothes.
