Advice please - nurse working shift parking eye ticket

I worked a shift in Llandough Hospital in Cardiff a few weeks ago with an agency. I travelled 100 miles (there and back) to work a shift there. I hadn’t been there before and the agency hadn’t told me anything about parking there. Anyway I parked in the staff car park, wrote a note and displayed it on my dashboard saying I was an agency nurse working on named Ward. I didn’t know what else to do. I came home to a parking fine of £70 today. I found out that I was supposed to go to a porters desk and give my car registration details in when I got to the hospital. I’m so upset that I’ve got this fine when I was working in the hospital to help out a short staffed ward and travelled all that way! :( is there point in appealing or will they just tell me I didn’t have a permit etc. Where do I stand? I was actually working in the hospital and I have proof with a timesheet

Hi and welcome to the forum ......

have you complained to the agency / hospital yet ?

when did the dastardly packing event take place ?

  • It happened last Friday but I got the letter today. So I didn’t know about it until now. I spoke to the hospital who said you’re supposed to contact the porters to give them your car registration details and that they have nothing to do with it and I need to contact parking eye. I also spoke to my agency who said they weren’t aware of the permit rule in this hospital and most hospitals in wales have free parking, they said as they didn’t know that’s why I wasn’t informed prior to the shift. And that they can’t do anything about it either
I have appealed but do you think they’ll take anything into consideration? :(

Have you read the top thread: 'NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST' post #1 and #3, about appeals?

  • I cannot tell you how mad this health board make me - they have permitted ParkingEye to operate within 3 sites to date with seemingly full authority. Claims have been issued and defaulted.

I would strongly urge you to make contact with your local MP to see if they can assist and get this cancelled. The local MP for that area of Cardiff is Kevin Brennan as well as Mark Drakeford, emails to either or both of those may help in getting this quashed as they have fabulous communication lines with the Health Board.

For Your Information - the data entry system in use at the llandough site is within the porters office, i have come across cases where the porters office was shut and locked so the system was off limits. It really is something else when the only entry point is inaccessible at times to those that need to utilise it.

I have also had cases where the system was used and charges were issued despite that fact.

The greed from this industry is astonishing - they do it to try their luck and seemingly the numbers work in their favour.

I also like to send a full and formal complaint relating to their operation to the head honcho above that of parking eye to get a nice clean(er/ish) investigation. Very big company with a lot to lose.
