Selling without Estate Agent

Has anyone got any experience of selling a house without an estate agent? We are thinking of doing this however just wanted to see how the process went for anyone who has been in a similar position?

Depends on why you're taking such a decision?

Yes it's very possible but ultimately your sale wont get the same exposure, so barring a serious dose of luck, you'll be 'selling' for longer

Sold a property a few years ago without an estate agent, cost 50p for the ad in the local shop window and had a couple of asking price offers within a week.

What's your plan for selling it then? What's the market in your area like?

What's your marketing budget? How are you going to advertise the property, i.e. provide details of room sizes, a floor plan etc.

Yes I've done it, but it was the right time, I had the right house, a very good local grapevine + a huge hospital on the doorstep to advertise inside.

At the same time, I bought my friend's house, so a win:win all
    round.

Fast forward 20 years and it was not the right time, so although all the other factors still pertained, I used an agent. It was still hard work.

No one really knows your house or situation, except you......and I'm not sure if this is the right time either!

Then there's a pretty good chance your asking price was too low and you missed out on thousands.
  • I am currently purchasing a house privatly. With demand so high these days I would say its easy.

That being said estate agents one of fees as low as £600 one off charge - maybe worth just getting them to do it...
  • Most people only look on Rightmove these days, so unless you can get your house on there without an agent, you'll be missing most of your potential buyers I'd have thought.

Can work well with the right seller and buyer and if you feel you have the skills and experience to negotiate for yourself or if any problems occur. it's when problems occur that a decent agent shows their true worth.

I nearly had a last minute hiccup with my house sale last week.
Not only was the agents knowledge and experience invaluable, but the main thing was the third party separation which meant it was easier for the agent to ask questions and assess the buyers situation without us showing our hand.
I'm not sure the outcome would have been so positive without the agent involved.

How do people buy something that they don't know is for sale?
