Buying a car when the seller is not the owner

  • We are talking of a street trader here masquerading as a private seller. I have come across many with only 1 car to sell; they aren't Arnold Clarke you know and don't have the capital to tie up in several cars or anywhere to put them..

Maybe, or they could be a perfectly innocent third party with nothing to hide, as I was a couple of months ago when I sold a VW Polo on behalf of an 80yo widow who I know through work.
  • Yeah well generally it is a bad idea but can work out OK; you just need to do more homework on the car's provenance.

Agree completely, I just prefer to believe most people are basically trustworthy unless my investigations lead me to believe otherwise.

Yeah. In the 100+ second hand cars I've bought, I've come across only a very tiny number of really dodgy people.

The nation is awash with used cars going for peanuts. If you have the slightest suspicion, walk away.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
