Hi all,
I made a claim a couple of years ago against egg via barclaycard. It was turned down and I didn't do anything about it. A couple of years later I realised that I should try again (refused) and appeal to the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman decided I had been miss old as I hadn't been in work for six months when I was sold the policy and had had a short period of unemployment prior to the new job. Barclays disputed this but the case was upheld.
This weekend Barclays wrote to say that they will pay out nearly £5,000.
Posts like this and this site gave me help and hope when I started out, so I just wanted to say thanks and pass it on.
No need for a claims company, it was easy and relatively quick.
I'm now trying with Canada Square and a loan I had with Egg.

Interesting.
In 2013, you posted that the PPI was self-selected by you online and that the complaint was rejected on that basis.

So what reason did Barclay's give for relenting?0 -
They rejected those grounds but found that I was ineligible because of the employment status in that I had only been employed for five months in the new job and been unemployed for about three prior to that.
Barclays challenged that and said that I should have had proof of unemployment. The Ombudsman said that this was unreasonable as it was around 18 years ago and was a relatively short period and the nature of my work suggested that was likely. If pushed, I could have probably found evidence but the Ombudsman upheld it anyway.0
