O/S Daily Monday 23rd October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork loin joint, which was really gorgeous, some of the best pork we've had in ages, I served it with roasties, mash, carrots, leeks, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy. We went out in the morning to visit the parents and I did put the meat in the oven before we left but hadn't prepped anything else, so when we did get back I had quite a lot to do, but it was all lovely in the end. Tonight should be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - which I think I'll stick with as it's my longer day at work today and I need something just to bung in the oven and a bulb in the kitchen blew last night and I don't have any of that sort left so need to go to the big orange shed and get some new one's - it feels really dark in the kitchen at the moment, there isn't any under counter lighting - just in the ceiling.

Yesterday was a lazy day, we just had lunch then chilled, I organised pack ups etc whilst the lunch was cooking.

On the way into work this morning, I need to take a letter back that's been wrongly delivered to ours on Saturday - DS2 saw the address was correct but not the name so signed for it - so I'll be taking it back to the sorting office this morning, I then need to stop off and buy loaf of bread, milk and some salt - have completely run out of salt for grinder.

Back to work this morning, possibly a manic Monday - who knows! I prefer busy, we'll see. I must remember when I do get home I need to cook the whole chicken that's in the fridge - so there's cooked chicken for pack ups.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, it is still dark here but I can see that it has started raining. Not a nice start to the day but it could be a lot rainier than this. It isn't very warm but am resisting putting the heating on. I did put it on for an hour last night, to make sure that the bedding was aired before putting it away.
I am out to an appointment this morning, then more report writing at home later.
This is going to be another very busy week, then things should calm down a bit.

Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning :hello:

Master tru had a bad day on thursday. A customer rang and said he wants to install something, needs to turn the water off but the stopcock is broken, could you pop round to replace it? Yep, I'll pop round later when I've finished this job – approx 7pm. So he goes to turn the water off outside on the path, just touches the tap with the tool – didn't even start to turn it - which shatters (not sure a plastic tap is a good idea, Severn Trent!) and water shoots 30ft in the air! That lasted about 30 seconds then settled down to the water bubbling up. He rang ST who say they'll be out within four hours, late that night they turn up, have a look then leave and come back at 7.30am the next day. By which time gardens are under a couple of inches of water and nobody is happy. He's on the phone to the customer to keep updated while walking to his van – which had been broken into overnight  Luckily most of his tools were either on-site or in our shed, they got away with a small bag of plumbing hand tools. There was a small hole where they'd punched through with a screwdriver and levered the lock on the inside. There's no keyhole because of central locking, they knew exactly where to make the hole and obviously brought the screwdriver with them. Anyway, there's now a welded-on plate over the hole and a big lock across the two doors – thieves will have to dismantle the van around it to get in now, lol. Customer's plumbing is fixed. Master tru decided to take the weekend off.

There seemed to be cooking going on all weekend and each person left a mess. I ignored it and hid in the other room. When I did venture out to make myself some food, someone had helpfully turned the oven off with my food in it, while they were “clearing up”. I say “clearing up” because it wasn't cleaned, just smeared around with a cloth and about half the washing up had to be done again – not by me! - because it wasn't washed properly. I think dishes were just dipped in the sink then thrown on the drainer. I'm glad everyone is going to work this morning.

I haven't been doing much except crochet. I've finished my blanket and decided to make four matching cushion covers – two down, two to go. I'll carry on working on those today while imagining I live a fabulous life by myself :D

  • Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to those in need.
My ex thought I should do everything, including working full time and bringing up four children and that's only one of the reasons he's the ex.
I'm dropping CHS at work and then collecting a dgd for the morning.
I'll take each child out in turn during half term.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

Coxy - I hope that the week off work at least gives you some respite and that you find some way of getting the other members of the family to help out a bit and take on some of the household chores for you. Hopefully the visit to your doctor will be useful.

I’m sorry it wasn’t better news about your dds father in law JackieO.

I went out for a walk yesterday around the local park and town and was lucky enough to be walking through M & S as a shortcut just as they were doing their y/s and got some good bargains. There were quite a lot of things that I buy regularly that freeze well.

As the wind has brought down a lot of the leaves I need to get them swept up today. I have been trying to do it daily because there are a lot of trees overlooking my back garden and I’ve a big tree in the front.

Hugs to those who are having a difficult time at the moment or are unwell.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Dry and wind free outside but will it last!

I decided yesterday I ought to face the fact Christmas is fast approaching and I am nowhere near organised. I have about 101 people to buy for and always make a start in the January sales - then always grind to a stop! I also have clothes for 7 gt nieces and nephews that I got from Sainsbobs' last sale during the 25% off event, but still loads more to get so it will be eyes peeled every time I go out! I also took advantage at the w/e of the code that came with my RSPB mag of 20% off orders, as well as free P&P, and ordered my cards. I love their cards, such good quality and lovely designs. Yawn yawn I am boring myself now with this Christmas talk!

If it keeps fine today maybe the dead moss on the drive will get tackled at last. It looks such a mess and I shame with the state of it.

Not given a thought to meals for today but there is a bowl of mashed potato left from yesterday so will think of something to transform that into. Maybe fish cakes. I left some of the pea and ham soup, made yesterday, in the fridge so that will be lunch with a toastie or pastie.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the sad, worried or poorly. Take care xx

Good morning chums, the darker mornings are here, but at least its dry at the moment, I am at my youngest DD's today as the boys are at home on half term for a week.

I have everything crossed for eldest DDs pa-in-law this morning as he has his op. I will no doubt be on the phone at various times during the day in between feeding three of my teenage DGS.

I will be taking a bag with some of the charity knitted squares with me so I can carry on sewing them together, keeps me occupied and busy :)

Hope you all have a good Monday

    Cheers chums

    JackieO xx

Morning all. I'll keep a few body parts crossed for Frank today Jackie. Let us know how it goes.

I'm off to the hospital to have my dressing changed and then I need to come home via Asda for a few bits. Once home I will be making the first of the Christmas cakes. If I remember I'll put a load in the washing machine before I go out to keep that up to date.

    Take care all of you.
  • JACKIE my thoughts and best wishes are flying down to Frank today. Hope all goes as well as it can do x

  • Morning all,

I had a busy but lovely weekend. I depart for sunny Mijas early on Thursday morning, so I was getting my ducks in a row in advance of that.

Tried to make caramel and white chocolate cup cakes but it didn't work out quite as I had expected. Still tasted ok.

Not much else to report. Misty/rainy morning which I hope subsides for my football tonight. I've got a power of ironing to do as well.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a lovely week :)

Jackie - Hope all goes well.

    Morning lovelies

All the best vibes to Frank today and anyone else having a rough time.

Had a great weekend at the Good Food show. Ate and drank our ticket price easily soo many things on offer to try for free :j Got to meet John Tarode too who was just lovely...treated myself to a signed copy of his book :o:o

Did buy some knives though ....horribly expensive but have been wanting to invest in some quality chef standard knives for a long while. Just got two... a large and a veg size which will do me fine cant wait for them to arrive now

Lots to crack on with today including how to dispose of my old mattress that was peed on. Got a good bargain on a new one from Costco and a nice thick protector from Dunelm. Need to break the news to the culprit today and get the money back....could really have done without this. Food wise I will go light today after a very indulgent weekend. Also got some invoicing to do and sort some questions posed by my accountant (never a good thing )

Have a good day all :A
