Sick pay help

Thanks in advance for any help.
Today I've had an accident at home and have fractured a bone in my hand. I have a cast on and are unlikely to be allowed to go to work. I work for a well known supermarket.
I have only been working for the firm for just over three months. To qualify for SSP from the work I have to have been there for 39 weeks.
Do I have to apply for ESA or do I have to go down the route of Universal Credit. I have done a check on the Internet and I live in a full service area.
Do I submit my sick note to the employer anyway and wait for them to tell me I won't get nothing from them or can I start my claim via UC.
Thanks

Not sure where you have got the 39 weeks from, it is incorrect. As long as you earn £113 a week you will qualify.0

The 39 weeks is the company policy. They won't pay me SSP until I have been there that length of time.0

They might have an enhanced package for people who've been there for 39 weeks but they have to pay you SSP if you meet the criteria in the link above.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

You're thinking of occupational sick pay. All of the major supermarkets pay SSP according to the law. The unions would be all over them if they didn't!0
