How do I set up a wireless usb adapter on windows xp?

Hi there everybody,

I have to setup a wireless connection for a friend and have a spare netgear router dg83 that I am giving her. She will have to buy a wireless usb adapter for her pc to get the signal.

She is on orange braodband. I know how to access the router ok as I am on aol braodband with a similar router but connecting to pc with eternet cable but how do I setup the usb adapter on her pc and any problems to look out for?
I'd be grateful if someone could give me the step by step approach on how to configure the usb dongle on her xp home (or point to be a webpage that has it so that I can print it out)

Many thanks for your kind help.

It won't be difficult - it should be a question of just installing the software and plugging it in. With Windows XP it's pretty straightforward.

As long as the router's plugged in and running then you should be running pretty quickly.

Has the router you're using been used before?

If its just a wireless USB dongle just run the installation CD to install the drivers, insert the USB stick then just search for wireless networks. Then if applicable enter the security code when you've clicked connect and then it should be on the internet and network...unless I completely missed something from your post?

Thanks for replies yeah the router has been used before by me, and has my aol login on it. So I guess if she hasn't a network card in her computer then I will have to erase my detalils on it through my pc and put hers on.

Am I right in thinking that unless she has a network card then there is no way to access the router at her house. I suppose I can take my acer laptop with me think theres an enternet connection on it.
