It seems some of us get every freebie and others get
nothing, it can't just be down to the luck of the draw.

My post did mention the JD registration. Demographic groups work something like:
18-24 male
18-24 female
25-34 male
25-34 female
35-44 male
35-44 female
etc.

If they pick two groups to constantly target then a lot of people never get anything, while some people get a lot of things, which seems to be what's happening.

Registering with an incorrect DOB could backfire as you could be sent things you've grew out of a long time ago and then not be sent something you'd really like.

If you complete a lot of registrations from the same address they could well not post to your address as they may think you are doing it to try to get freebies not intended for you. Also I'm sure you're aware encouraging people to try and get freebies not intended for them would be against MSE rules.
