Dodgy online order query

Hi,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place - had trouble navigating the forum.

Basically, I recently bought online a bike, a helmet and some nike lights from a company called Mango Bikes. Everything arrived perfectly fine but I received no order confirmation by email or anything. I have a paper receipt with my order number.

I didn't want to keep the helmet or lights so I emailed them to ask for a return address - received NO response. I have since emailed them again, from different accounts, Facebook Messaged them, Tweeted to them, texted the forwarding mobile number and tried calling - it went to a full voicemail so I couldn't leave a message.

I ended up sending the items back to the only address I had available and I paid almost £6 for postage. Unfortunately, the parcel has been returned to me because the address was 'inaccessible'.

Now I have absolutely no idea how to get in touch with this company and claim a refund - the items are only worth about £30 but that's not the point. If I have a serious issue with my bike I will also not be able to contact them re. a warranty so I'm stuck.

Any advice on what to do next?

Kind regards,
Jess

I haven't got a clue I'm afraid, but it might explain why you're having difficulties.

On the face of it, you still have all your legal rights.

The company (the legal entity you entered the contract with) still exists and is not in liquidation and there are (as of yet) no proposals to strike off.

How did you pay for the items and how much were they each? How long ago? Might be worth contacting your bank (if you paid by card) and see if a chargeback or section 75 claim is possible (section 75 preferably but thats only available when paying by credit for items costing more than £100).

can you do a chargeback for items you ordered and have received?

You can do a chargeback for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons is credit not received - that you were due a refund under the terms of the contract or by agreement and haven't received it.

Whether his bank will do it (or whether the merchant bank will refuse it) is another matter. But given it will cost nothing and carries no risk for the OP, theres no harm in trying (or appealing to the financial ombudsman if either of the banks reject the claim).

The mantra for this site should be "Do your research BEFORE you buy". I never, ever buy anything online without Googling the company and also reading their shipping, returns and refunds policies. It does mean that occasionally I might miss a bargain but I'd rather that than be worrying about having problems if I have to return items.
