I hear you Seashore about the washer dryer thing. We needed a new washing machine and this is quite a damp house so I wanted a tumble dryer too but had no space for one. Honestly if the washing machine bit gives me many years of service then I will be happy enough.

When you say "the drainage bit" - do you mean the fluff filter? Its normal for this to fill with water as its the lowest point before the water is pumped out of the machine (and the filter is there to protect the pump). When you use the dryer, a condenser cools the humid air to water which is drained the same as during a wash.

Air is heated in a box on top of the drum, the hot air is blown through the clothes in the drum (where it picks up moisture) & then into the condenser on the back of the drum. This warm damp air goes up the condenser back to the heater box (to go around again). Cold water trickles down the condenser, the cold condenses the moisture out of the damp warm air & it is pumped away.
That's how it should work, unless they've changed a lot in the last 15 years.
Lots can go wrong, fan doesn't work, one or both heaters pack up, fill valve doesn't let the cold water flow...

In the instruction book it says to drain the water out and remove to make sure the filter is clear. Duh. Just writing this and I get it!!! I’m a bit slow sometimes these days.
So where is the water tap that needs to be open? Any clue?

Just spotted this old thread of mine while looking for something else.

In case anyone else has the same dilemma, eventually I got an engineer out from ikea (under warranty) and the heating element had broken so he replaced it and the dryer worked perfectly.
