but why should coinstar provide a service free of charge - they have to supply and maintain the machine instoreDeleted_User wrote: »This.
I've used Coinstar. They save you the trouble of counting and bagging the coins, and possibly multiple visits to the bank. There is a cost to providing the service. Why should you expect it to be free?0 -
I have a coffee jar full of 2p and 1p coins. I fill a small purse with them and use them at the self checkout.0

If you're near a Metro Bank you can use their 'magic money machine' - tip the coins in and it'll give you a receipt to change into real money - same as Coinstar but with no charge.
You don't need to bank with them either - my son saves up his change and takes it in there once a year.xxx Nikki xxx0 -

As another poster mentioned, HSBC do this in some (many?) branches. I use my Guildford branch to deposit charity donations at work into my own account and then transfer onwards.
Did this on saturday in fact - it wasn't 11 stone worth, but the 1's, 2's and 5's came to about £20. There was lots of larger ones as well. At one point the machine stopped, and gave me a receipt, saying no more as it was full. They emptied it and I added the rest...Peter

IF you have a Metro Bank near you, they have coin machines that you can dump your change into and they won't take a fee. You also don't need to have an account. It prints out a ticket for you which you then take to the counter and they'll change it up. They will try and flog you one of their accounts, but I just stonewall them.0
