Incorrect location number

Ok so today I parked at St James Park at Newcastle, went online and found the location number for "St James" and paid £2.24 to park for 90 minutes. I returned to my vehicle to find a pcn. I immediately phoned the council and they told me to Appeal, and forward them the receipt for parking which I have done.
On further investigation, there is another parking location "NUFC Stadium" which I fear now may have been the correct location. This location is actually cheaper than what I have paid !
Does anyone think I have grounds to get this pcn squashed due to misleading location name or will they tell me it is my fault? I have not told them I think I have entered a different location. Also on PayByPhone the locations are all in alphabetical order and the NUFC STADIUM one is 2nd from top ??? No wonder I never seen it!
Any help would be appreciated as I'm really annoyed and do not want to pay due to something that i feel is not my fault.

as this is not a private parking charge , I suggest you go to pepipoo forums , sign up with a gmail email address (not hotmail) and post in their relevant section
upload any scans of all the paperwork too
