Messy challenge

I joined this site a few years ago when I had a break down after something that happened to me. I was diagnosed with PTSD.

After 6-8 months I was back to work and doing great. This site helped me so much, I let my home rot around me, there was just a walk way through the rooms etc it got that bad.

Any way, I have recently become ill and I'm struggling to move physically. I am terrified that if I sit around I will go backwards again.
One of the things that helped me the last time was doing a challenge every hour.
Every hour that I was at home during the day I would get up and do some thing little.
Empty a bin, move some clutter, any thing at all to make myself move and help my situation a little.

I've decided to do this again as my home is already messy (Been ill for 6 weeks so far).

Any one want to join in? No pressure, even if you just recycle one letter each hour :A

  • Couldn't agree with you more, just one thing done is better than nothing done, and makes the place better than it was yesterday.

I joined this site 3 weeks ago to try and get my house into shape. I no longer liked being in the house as it was untidy. Have been doing it little by little following the weekly FLY method. Slowly I am getting rooms tidied up, and this is allowing a minimum amount of cleaniget done. I started with the tidiest (or least undtidy) room, our bedroom and did that over a few days, and then concentrated on keeping that tidy whilst progressing (very slowly in other areas). I don't yet get level one done but the house is progressing.

Evenings are my difficult time to get anything done, but have started going into kitchen during the adverts and doing the washing up or clearing away, it is surprising how much you can get done in a couple of minutes.

Good luck with your challenge. During my bad spells I find it helpful to write down everything I do manage to do rather than a having a "to do" list, I always manage something so it keeps me positive.
  • Good luck with this! I'm sure I don't need to tell you but every little helps and although your progress might be slow to start and it might not feel like you're making much difference, keep at at and don't give up. There will be plenty of people on here to give you the support and motivation you need. I do think Caronc's 'done' list rather than a 'to do' list is a great idea as you can track what you've achieved and let it motivate you. We've recently been renovating our house (slow going as we're doing it ourselves and both work full time) but we've taken a photo at the end of every day we've done something. Actually seeing the difference that all the small things make is great motivation.

    Good luck :)

I try to do this when I can - I get a lot of support on the poor health thread - I try to get stuff out of my house and clear out as much clutter and rubbish as I can! I’m hoping to do a lot before all the Xmas stuff goes up and it just gets hidden out of sight! Good luck!

I didn't know there was a poor health thread, I'll check it out.

I'm going to try to do something constructive each hour today. The place is getting a mess.

soworried it’s great as a lot of us who can only go at a certain pace and it’s a great support! Think it’s OS ways and poor health - it’s a great read too!

Good luck with your challenge. I have never been in your situation but when I am just being "lazy" I make myself get up every time the adverts come on the TV and do something in the house. Its amazing how much you can get done in 2 or 3 minutes !

Managed to clean the kitchen window by using a step so I didn't have to stretch, also cleaned the tiles above the cooker. The whole kitchen needs doing but one patch of it at a time.

Hi I have popped over from the poor health thread, great bunch of people there.

I will join in with you if I can, I do a to do list/things done list, but it only comprises things that I am pretty sure that I can achieve that day, I then add in other stuff as it happens, today wiping the MW oven in and out and the outside of the DW and kettle. On half decent days I do 15/20 minute bursts of activity and then rest a while. Also when en-route from one room to another I try and "re-home" any stuff on the way, e.g. to get to the bathroom I pass through the hall and by the bedroom so shunt a few things back to their proper homes on the way, not much effort is required and it helps a teeny bit with the tidying:D
