A few people keep saying add holiday pay.
I can see why, but I think it confuses the situation. The OP is basically employed to work 40 weeks, but paid for 40 weeks + holiday (in this case 4.8 full weeks). That number is typically then paid over 12 months.0 -
Your pro rata salary = £17,778 for 40 weeks of the year.
So that is equivalent of £17,778/52*40 = £13,675 salary
Assuming no other deductions, that gives you a tax home pay of £1,048

Sorry, but that's wrong. Academies (and even brand-new free schools) are LGPS scheduled bodies, and have no choice but to auto-enrol support staff into the LGPS. Back from my time in LGPS admin I know some new academies didn't fully understand that, but that's the law, and LGPS administering authorities should be enforcing it.0 -

Thanks for all your replies.
So the update is, I have now been offered the job. I have explained that the difference in money will be tight and is the deciding factor in the job for me. They have offered to give another two hours a week taking me to 37 hours per week and gross annual pay to 15,543.91. They have suggested the rake home pay from this to be around £1,097 per month.
I also asked about the pension following advice on here, if I put in 5% per month the academy will add 25% ... which is quite amazing !!
The situation is, I'm currently working in hospitality and it's a bit of a dead end job. I was earning 17.5k but I effectively got made redundant so took a pay cut in a different department to 15,100 for 40 hours but that's weekends, bank holidays, evenings .. the lot.
I now have to consider loosing about £1,000 per year but having LOTS of extra holiday and very sociable hours. The school have also offered me an apprenticeship alongside my role and as I have suggested HR may be a route I would like to consider they have offered an apprenticeship in this (all entirely free).
So the question is, do I loose £23.00 per month ( £1120.11 (current per month) - £1097 (new per month) for all these extra benefits. I'm still living at home so I'm thinking it could be good to get out of hospitality and into the eductation sector as I could always move again if it doesn't work out and I need more money.

For that amount of money, I think you'd be mad not to go for it too. The only contra-indication for me would be if travel was going to take three times as long or cost six times as much ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
