Luxury UK short break for young family

Hi all

I'm looking for somewhere to get away for a few nights (straight after half term week as I'm guessing availability/prices will be better then) with my wife and our two toddlers (both boys, 3 and 1). Would like like a little luxury (and don't mind paying if it's not stupid money) and something that is family friendly.

Can be a hotel, self-catering... we don't mind... but we'd love:

- a swimming pool nearby (for the kids!) (can be on site, but doesn't have to be)
- a nice view (would love a view of the sea, a harbour, or stunning scenery)
- good food, but in a relaxed atmosphere where toddlers would be welcome (alternatively, room service is an option, or eating out locally where they might be better accommodated)

Also nice, but less essential, would be:
- availability of a baby sitting service
- spa treatments
- family friendly attractions in the vicinity

Can be anywhere in England, Wales or Scotland, but probably not Cumbria since that's where we're based and perhaps not the extremes of Kent, Cornwall or John O' Groats because of the length of journey (but don't mind driving for a fair few hours - our kids are generally good in the car).

Thanks for any suggestions...

I know a few at the pricey end - Calcot Manor (Glos), The Grove (Herts), Ickworth (Suffolk), all fantastic facilities for kids and all have lovely spas.
Not cheap though and don't do off season rates as far as I know.

Perhaps its just me, but I've resigned myself to holidaying at Centerparcs for the next few years...because it provides just about all the things you mentioned.

Crieff Hydro in Perthshire is great for kids. Loads to do either as a family, or separately with kids activities and adult only areas. Indoors and outdoors activities, and you can choose to be somewhere busy or peaceful. Not lakeside or seaside but surrounded by beautiful hills.

been going there since my two were toddlers. changed a lot over the years but they still love it and they're older teenagers now. We were quad biking and horse riding in January this year. took my niece and nephew (7 & 5) last year and they loved it - especially the family ceilidh at night. all these kids learned to swim there - quality of instruction is excellent.

whatever you choose - have fun!

Have a look at the Marriott hotels. We got some good weekend deals when the kids were younger (now shes over 12 eldest is no longer a child!!!) or try a themed hotel. Weve just stayed at the new Holiday Inn at Chessington. There's also the Alton Towers hotel with its own water park.

Never been, but it's on my list of places to visit, when we have a little more money. The ultimate in luxury and style, from the people who run Soho House....and they cater for kids....:j
