LCS - Thames Water

I recently received a letter from LCS informing of an alleged debt at my old property with Thames Water, detailing the wrong dates and an amount that cannot have been correct as we paid by DD every month, what's also annoying is that the debt is in my name despite the account being changed over to my partner when she took over the bills.

As soon as I got this letter I called Thames Water, explained the situation and they asked for proof of tenancy ending which I've provided them with (twice, I don't believe my first email went through) however yesterday I got a call from LCS asking to discuss the debt to which I stated I don't recognise it and that I'm dealing direct with Thames Water and now today I've received 'Final Demand' letter.

I'm wondering what my next steps should be with LCS as I'm dealing with Thames Water (via email! Taking an age) and the account and amount are in dispute, if anything is owed it's less than £5 by my estimation (pro-rata monthly cost based on amount paid, we paid month in advance).

My other issue is that along with this and another debt issue (I lost my job not long ago and I've run out of money to pay bills, desperately trying to find a new job!), my credit profile has been hit although it appears that this hit is the worst, while long term it doesn't bother me, I don't want LCS or anything negative from them on my profile as it's a debt that's incorrect and not mine, what do I do about that?

Thank you for reading and look forward to your replies :)

    Hi Panda

As part of any dispute/complaint you make to Thames and/or LCS, you should demand the removal of any incorrect adverse info that may have been entered onto your credit file. These things can take time to be fully resolved so it would be prudent to suspend any fresh credit applications you may have had planned in the meantime.

I've dealt with Thameswater incompetence before and I will give you the most important advice - deal with them only via paper, and if you have to do it over the phone record the call (you don't need to inform them about it in UK).
