Smelly Wood Fired Hot Tub

TBH, if there's bacteria in the system that is causing water to deteriorate that quickly I wouldn't be getting in it! You should be able to leave it filled for months if the water is being treated and the hot tub is running properly.
Did you tell the owners last time? It sounds as if there is something fundamentally wrong with their equipment that needs attention.
I agree. There is something in the system, or the tub itself (or even the lid) causing the smell after a short time.
I don't really understand why the OP is having to do this unless it's a cottage owned by a family member/friend.0 -

We are renting a cottage at new year and it comes with a wood fired hot tub.
Just a thought, but is the cottage on a private water supply, with the hot-tub water fed directly, rather than through a purification system? That might account for the rapid deterioration in water quality after heating.0 -
Thanks everyone.
We are starting with a 'clean' empty tub and filling straight from the mains. I have no idea if it is a private water supply bit there is every chance. The cottage is very rural.
We don't mind draining down after use and refilling for next time. We really dont feel.the need to go in equipped with various chemicals for a three night stay, I will have a rake around when we arrive and see if there are any appropriate chemicals in the house. However I do take on board that the smell probably means there is something not quite right.
Thanks again. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0
