You cannot make a comparison based on £s. You need to calculate your projected annual usage per year in kWhs. Use this in a comparison site. You should also look at separate suppliers for gas and electricity.
Collective switches no longer off the cheapest overall deal, and ML’s top picks seem to change every week. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If you are an average user, it's IRESA according to Martin :money:
But best to consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you

If you want to include the collective tariff, then use the collective site to compare - it's powered by EnergyHelpLine
Good luck!0 -
Compare unit prices and standing charges. Nothing else matters. Do not go on "average/estimated" usage. Work out your own. If you don't know what it is, read your meter(s) at the same time every day and keep a record of it for at least a week. Take into account winter is approaching and most people's usage will increase dramatically.
If you have a year's worth of bills/an online account with your current supplier, it should be easy. Do you send regular meter readings?0 -

I don't think that is quite right.
That is not the only things the comparison sites consider.
Best to stick to the comparison sites that will do all the hard work for you than rather mislead yourself
What else does matter? The standing charges & price /kw are of prime importance, the comparison sights do not actually compare what deal you are on which is currently finishing to one you are considering going on. So basically all those figures are b******t. But I do agree that trying to find a suppliers actual charges can be a major challenge.0 -
Thanks, badmemory, could not have said it better myself. I think perhaps some posters on here like to over complicate things, perhaps even appoint themselves "experts". What is more important than price? Customer service? Nah. Other than that, they are all the same, anyway.0

MSE CEC runs two comparisons. One, the Ofgem mandated method based on a rolling 12 months cost projection and, two, a more useful 'cost for 12 months on present tariff' compared to 'cost for 12 months on these tariffs'.
The Ofgem method is only flawed for consumers on fixed tariffs with LESS than 12 months to run. For the 70% of consumers on SVTs, it works just fine. In fairness to Ofgem, some form of assumption has to be made as to the actions a consumer will take at the end of a fixed contract term. The Ofgem method is as good/bad as any other assumption. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Eon emailed me today with a 'special retention deal' not available to non-customers.
It is more expensive than the tariff mentioned above even though it is an identical 12m fix. With sharp practice like this it is not surprising that OFGEM are having to intervene.Hello Mr Xxxx Xxxxx
Cheaper than all
our other tariffs*
There's still time, but you'll need to be quick as your renewal window closes within the next 5 days!
We're offering you an exclusive tariff that's cheaper than all our other tariffs.I think....0 -

How exactly is E.oN misleading customers? What is different between the 2 deals? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
