Yes we recently had our entire kitchen ceiling taken down to and the floor up in our current house due to a major leak in the cavity wall (not our fault) my parents also had their loft converted a few years ago, mainly done by my dad. In which they also had to lower the ceiling in the bathroom to make for a flat floor in the loft.Do you have any experience with building works?
I fully understand what it could mean to live with building works going on for a considerable amount of time.0 -

Will your dad be willing to help?
The only reason I ask is because my parents have made a lot of money through buying two bunglows and doubling the size but my dad did all the work bar the brickwork and had lots of contacts for materials (Elm and oak flooring throughout). I wouldn't buy a home that needed that work because I couldn't do the work myself and that's where a lot of the money is made buy doing it yourself.0 -
We converted this

Hubby did a lot of the work himself, mainly the stuff that needed certificates ie, electrics, central heating were done by somebody else. He also had the brickwork done as he wanted it done quickly.0 -

Probably not, the old one is off the estate agents blurb. All my photos are on discs and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to look for them as I get in such a muddle with trying to get them back on the computer.
I could easily put more of as it is now but not as it was.
Sorry, I'm not very good with computers.0 -

It's not very pretty but they wouldn't allow us to do the extension in blocks and render the outside. They did say that we could render it once it had been passed!!!!!!! Couldn't afford to do that so it stays as it is.0 -
Yeah absolutely I have a friend who last year did exactly that, got the bedrooms upstairs and now has an enclosed lounge the size of a normal lounge and the most fantastic huge open plan, kitchen, dining and living area.I've got one that is just finishing at the moment and by raising the roof and building a large dormer they have created 3 new big double bedrooms, one with ensuite and a new family bathroom in the roof space. The place is huge now and looks fantastic plus they have added at least £300k to the value. Another one on a more modest scale simply extended and opened up the internal layout to create a more open plan living space/kitchen. Looks great and they have made a tidy profit.
