Monarch s75 claim rejected

Hi,

We had 3 sets of flights booked with Monarch and paid for on Santander Mastercards. Santander have confirmed that they will repay 2 out of the 3, but because third claim was for a flight booked by me, and paid for on my credit card, but for my husband they have stated that I wouldn't have had the benefit of the service and therefore won't pay the claim. Is this correct?

I have written back to Santander to explain that my husband's separate flight was still part of our family holiday, we only booked his flight separately because he didn't need baggage. So we booked the flights for me and the children with the extra legroom and baggage deal on the Monarch website, but then we couldn't add my husband without also adding the same package that the rest of us had. So we completed and paid for the seats for myself and the children, then booked my husband's flight separately with just an extra legroom seat - next to the rest of us. I'm hoping that they will consider this was a family holiday and therefore I would have received the benefit, but I'm not really clear on the rules Santander are applying here.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks.

You should be ok - but you will need to keep pushing. They are, understandably, trying to apply the rules in a very pure fashion.

Frankly the "not receiving the benefit" argument is dubious.

Indeed!! If wonder if they would dare trot out the same argument had the separate flight been for someone (e.g. a child) who could not book themselves.

Pretty sure the OP will prevail in the end with this one!
  • Thanks everyone, that's what I thought to, so will keep pushing and will let you know.
