Is there a way to check if a price has changed through internet?

Hi,
Sorry the title is a bit drawn out!
I saw an item on the John Lewis website the other day, priced at £109 (with no discounts). I know it was that price because I was looking at it with someone else.
Anyway, this evening I checked again and it said it had 25% off, so I was pleased. However, when checking out, it said the discount had already been applied, yet it was still £109!
Now, I know they don't have to sell at a particular price, I just can't help thinking it is a bit sneaky to say it's discounted, when it's not. I also thought there were some rules against that sort of thing.
I vaguely remember something about checking the history of yhe page to see if it was previously a higher price. I could have completely imagined it though!:rotfl:

You could try the waybackmachine or see if google search has the webpage of the item cached.
Is it possible the 25% off was always there and you just didn't see it?
There are guidelines about pricing/discounting for retailers but that would be for TS/CMA/ASA to deal with rather than the consumer. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Thank you! I managed to find it (get me, I'm normally a technophobe
), and I was right. Google shows the page from 15/10/17 with a price of £109 and no discount mentioned. The item in question is their own brand sewing machine and it was recommended by a teacher. We both even looked at them together and discussed the price. She even said to keep an eye on the price because they often discount the old colours ready for new ones (possibly the reason there's no discount on the white version, which incidentally is £109 too and exactly the same machine).
I have emailed them saying I was disappointed and confused as to why they would advertise a discount when there wasn't one. Hopefully they might offer something off, but I know they don't have to. Worth an ask though!
Here's the item, if anyone's interested.

Looks as if they got your email!
The price is currently £81.75 (which is £109 minus 25%).
The time to buy is now :-)Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -

Ooh, thanks! Just ordered. I wonder if the website just hadn't updated properly or something. I sent the email late last night so they'll probably think I'm bonkers because they won't get it until after the issue is resolved. Oops!:D0 -
They've been glitchly lately on their site - i bought a surface pro which had an "extra years guarantee" offer (3 years not two), which they failed to then provide me as the offer expired a couple of days later (after order but before delivery) - still fighting for that

Still says 'saving applied to price' rather than 'saving already applied to price' so someone seeing it today could still think there is a further 25% off.0

Grrr! How annoying. I hope you get it sorted. I know I have always had good service when using them before so hopefully they will come up trumps for you too!0
