Best carpet and flooring fitters

Hi,

I was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting estimates for carpet and wooden flooring fitting?

Are there any recommendations? I'm looking for a cost effective way.

The usual word-of-mouth is always best - ask friends/neighbours, or a local community Facebook page, for recommendations for a fitter.

Failing that, pop into your nearest carpet shop and ask for the contact details of one of their fitters. Most shops don't employ fitters full-time, they just use one of a number of self-employed fitters.

Thanks. I actually rang carpet right in the end and they gave me a really good quote :)

Quite often that is the best way, some of the fitting is subsidised by the carpet sale

Carpet shops won't give you the name of their self employed fitters, why would they? They want to sell you carpets their fitters will fit for you and who can blame them?

My local place did. Friend getting rid of a carpet, really good condition. We wanted a carpet for the toy-room, nothing fancy, just something cheap 'n' cheerful. I shifted the carpet from friend's house to mine, carpet fitter fitted it for cash-in-hand ( yeah, I know, but hey, this is MSE after all ), great job, no complaints, really cheap price. Everyone's a winner :-)
