Best carpet and flooring fitters

Hi,
I was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting estimates for carpet and wooden flooring fitting?
Are there any recommendations? I'm looking for a cost effective way.

The usual word-of-mouth is always best - ask friends/neighbours, or a local community Facebook page, for recommendations for a fitter.
Failing that, pop into your nearest carpet shop and ask for the contact details of one of their fitters. Most shops don't employ fitters full-time, they just use one of a number of self-employed fitters.0 -

Quite often that is the best way, some of the fitting is subsidised by the carpet sale0 -

My local place did. Friend getting rid of a carpet, really good condition. We wanted a carpet for the toy-room, nothing fancy, just something cheap 'n' cheerful. I shifted the carpet from friend's house to mine, carpet fitter fitted it for cash-in-hand ( yeah, I know, but hey, this is MSE after all ), great job, no complaints, really cheap price. Everyone's a winner :-)0
