It's a bit different though. Fiestas are a boring, safe car. People buy them when they don't really care about having a good looking or impessive car. They don't really care about high resale values. A boring car for boring people. (I've had two)But a LOT more people bought Fiestas. That's why they've consistently been no 1 in the sales charts, when Peugeot struggle to get into the top 10. Ford generally outsell Peugeot 3 to 1.
If Pugs outnumber Fiestas in the 2nd-hand market, it must be because many more Peugeot owners want rid. Does that not tell you something?
I suspect people bought Peugeots at the time because they had high resale values (previous models did) and because they were 'trendy' at the time. I guess I'm saying the 207 was popular partly based on previous models' success and so when it comes to the second hand market, there is an over supply because 10 years later it's an ugly car.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
It's because french cars are generally 5h1t0

In the mid naughties all cars started looking stupid. The 207 is no exception. It's a very, very, very ugly car. Even uglier than the fiesta.
That was due to an EU change in pedestrian crash safety regulations for vehicles. Basically they had to be designed so that when a pedestrian was hit at the front of the car that when their head hit the bonnet it wasn't stopped by the top of the engine block which is what used to happen. As a result these butt ugly designs came out to give more space between the engine block and the bonnet. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The Fiesta is quite a decent drive, though visibility is a bit dubious with the very sloped windscreen and long droop snoot.
The Peugeot is not nice to drive and not very well equipped.
So a case of supply and demand - people are comfortable with a Fiesta, they also know it is a car that can be resold relatively easily, so they'll pay a bit more.0 -
Still see Peugeot 106s and Citroen Saxos knocking about, so they can't be totally bad.
Mate's family have run several 206s and 306s which have been OK.
They're cheap. A good "MSE" thing in this case surely?
The last of the good Peugeots were the 106 and 306, as they were fun enough to drive that it made up for everything else, the 206 was where it started going wrong, as it was all top heavy and handled about as well as a Golf buggy with 2 fat CEOs and two sets of clubs.
They made nice cheap fun cars until they moved toward comfort and the OAP market that Rover left open when it became MG and start sticking cheap bling to it's cars.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

and they were made out of only the finest quality French cheese. My sisters 206 gearbox was totally !!!!!!!!ed after about 80k miles and I know about 3 other people with similar issues.
They also didn't handle that well.
If you want a laugh, go on YouTube and find the Top Gear 'dramatisation' of the meeting that Peugeot supposedly had in the early 00's. Apparently the meeting was where they decided new models, but Top Gear portray it as a meeting where they decide "we will stopper errrr makin zee gud car, and start errr makin zee terriblee carzzz" in the most ridiculous French accents.0
