O/S Daily Wednesday 18th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.

Still dark, but wet underfoot as it's been raining from some time during the night and forecast is for rain for most of today, still not particularly cold though.

Dinner last night was chicken in creamy mushroom sauce, mash, carrots, brocolli and HG green beans (me only). Tonight we'll be having gammon, egg, oven roasted herby potatoes, and peas. I have plenty of eggs in the fridge, so will be thinking of recipes to use them up, thinking maybe I'll make a cake either tomorrow or Friday when I'm on my days' off, we haven't had HM cake for ages, I think it will be jam and cream victoria sponge.

Work yesterday was again another strange day - all or nothing but fairly steady, we had to have a last minute switch round as someone was off sick and that left us with only 1 member of staff at closing time, so I was asked to stay late on my early finish night, which I did as wouldn't let my colleagues down and I know that we do it for each other and I managed to get paid for it and not time in lieu. Boss also said to me yesterday that I need to be taking a day off as I have accrued a lot of extra hours which I need to convert to time off. I'll be looking at that today, and I have a day in mind that I'd like so I'll see if that's a possibility. Working all day today but then on days' off but working Saturday, so I'll be getting as much done as possible over Thursday and Friday.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After the recent visit by ex-Ophelia all is calm once more and quite a pleasant day is forecast for us.

The early wakening bug has returned again and I was doing so well at having a decent night's sleep for a while.

I wasn't as restrained as I had hoped at the gift party last night. As expected I was sucked in by all the aromatherapy stuff and placed an order. I also succumbed to some Body Shop stuff so the only gifts I bought were for myself!!

I am meeting my oldest buddie this morning for a coffee (or maybe 2) and a cake. It's her birthday so I have the usual little gift to give her. We have been friends since we met at school when we were 7 - making it a 65 year friendship! Where have all those years gone!

After a week's reprieve we have the 3 DGDs back for tea, sleepover and school run. They all arrive at different times on a Wednesday after their various clubs, dancing classes etc. so tea is a staggered affair and has yet to be named! A freezer rummage shortly will solve that. Also must get out something quick for our lunch for when I get back from my coffee meet-up. No doubt the usual soup and quiche or sandwich!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the sad, worried and poorlies, Oh and welcome CHIRPYCHICK. Always nice to welcome someone new to our daily gossip thread. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Thank you for starting us off nmlc.

    Welcome Chirpychick :hello:

I’ve had a really restless night. I was still awake at 2.00am and then was tossing and turning most of the night and have been up since just after 5.30am. At least I can have a nap this afternoon. I think I will need one.

I’ve got one last UFO in the freezer, which will be dinner tonight. It looks like Bolognese sauce so I won’t prepare any veg because I will have that with spaghetti and I have a few mushrooms a neighbour gave me yesterday so I can cook them up and add them to the sauce. At least I will now have an accurate inventory of the freezer contents, although I am ashamed of the value of the food in them.

I am looking forward to using the meat in them up in nice stews and casseroles over the winter months. I love the smell of that sort of food cooking in the slow cooker.

Other than sorting out food there is nothing planned for today, so hugs to those who are having a difficult time at the moment or are unwell.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Morning all and thank you for starting us off nmlc.

I've had a couple of very productive days working at home but yesterday afternoon got a calling email for a full day of training today. I was meant to be in the office for the day then going to a seminar late afternoon. One I really wanted to attend never mind, it isnt possible, the two things conflict. Officially, I was taking back time owed so if I hadn't been working instead, I wouldn't have had the laptop going, would not have known. So I'll be off in a bit to the other side of the city for this course. At least it is not raining.

I feel a bit less pressured having got one massive piece of work done, will start the other next. Well it is mostly done, just the report to do.

Welcome chirpychick, I've seen your redundancy thread, didn't have anything useful to say though. My OH was redundant about 25 years ago, took a break, got another job which didn't suit him and gave up work entirely, this was decidedly not a good idea. Things will work out for you, I'm sure.

It is getting colder, feels a bit more autumnal, though yesterday was a beautifully bright day. Sadly, I was too busy to get out until it had gone dark but I could look at the sky at least.
I need to get ready and shift myself. OH will take me to the bus stop, but it is going to be a full hour's travel. I don't know if there is a cafe in the large complex type place we shall be at, if not, a group of us will have to go on a food run. We are almost out of bread so not enough to make a sandwich, that's got to be my fault somehow for not reminding anyone to get bread. Son doesn't like bread from my bread maker so I have not been making any.

Onwards and upwards, or in my case probably sideways.

    Have a good day everyone

    Morning everyone,

    Welcome Chirpychick :)

Quick visit today as off to the yard soon, the vets are coming to give Lulu the 2nd part of her jabs and, after two days of not doing it, her field will need clearing.
Didn't go to Pilates in the end, was in the kitchen, turned funny and felt something ping in my side :( took painkillers and made hot water bottle but no way could have stretched etc for an hour. Must have made right decision as much better today.
Right, better get going, have a good day folks x

Good Morning chums and a bit of a grey one with drizzle here this morning .bombed at quiz last night The quiz chap decided that he would do two audio rounds and we did really badly as few of us knew who on earth was talking in one round and even worse who was singing in the second round.Hopefully he won't do those again as no one was very keen Ok for the half a dozen youngster who were there for the music but as the average age of most of us is shall we say ... north of 55 modern music seems to have past most of us by :):):) But we did have a good laugh anyway and we are not that fussed:)

DDs day off today and I am popping in for coffee as I had her garden returfed for her yesterday by my gardener and I want to see if sh is pleased with it.Fingers crossed we get some rain today for it
Chicken with cajun spice for dinner tonigh as I dug some chicken thighs out of the freezer.I also found some bacon bits in there so an omelette with diced bacon for lunch I think Hope you all have a good day and halfway through the month already :)
    Cheers chums

    Morning all

    HappyWorld Menopause Day :D:D

Off to very Welsh Wales today to train the police on dealing with the menopause in the workplace. Its a course I love running seems to make a big difference with the way managers help with their team when they face it.
You would be proud of me I have made a couple of barm cakes for the journey as I always seem to get hungry on the train and end up throwing away good money on tasteless stuff from the buffet. Nice hotel tonight and all meals included so its going to be a cheap one hopefully.

Hi chirpychick welcome to our small but perfectly formed group of friends :)

TA gifts bought for self are the best ones  you deserve a treat.

    Have a great day all
  • Morning all,

Made myself some low carb buffalo chicken with steamed veg last night - fantastic. Then watched GBBO, bloody love it.

Football tonight is cancelled. Couldn't get enough players, I think because Celtic are playing. Not sure what mischief I'll get up to.

TA - Thanks for explaining. Sounds like a party I'd personally avoid, although my mum would no doubt love it.
Chirpychick - Welcome. Need anything from a mans perspective, then let me know...I'll ask one of my pals.
Nelski - It's world menopause day? Good timing as the hot flushes might keep the ladies warmer in the winter. All terrible jokes aside, I'll admit to knowing very little about it. Hope you have a good day.
  • Morning all..

Welcome Chirpychick. Good company here. Well DH has gone to collect DGS. Short day today as we take him to nursery this afternoon at 12.45. It's half term next week and his mummy isn't working so we are off the hook for formal babysitting. .no doubt Grampy's taxi will be in demand.

Gloomy and damp here and I slept in. Must hit the shower before they get back. Might go to Tesco this morning as we are out of a few things and DGs likes the trip and the free piece of fruit.

right offski. Have a good day all.

Oh my what a grey day, OH says he will be working in the shed, I have an appointment with the ironing, bed linen and a sirt of OH's which looks like a dish rag unless its ironed.

Welcome to Chirpychick, sorry I am a bit late, blame my advancing old age, did not realise I had not welcomed you.

Supper tonight cheese pie and beans, might be a tad windy here tonight!!

Hester, just one day to go and woo hoo...........I would love to be a fly on the wall of your office on Friday!! I am sure you will find something to occupy yourself.
