Granite worktop query

Hi
I had a granite kitchen worktop installed in August and whilst i've been very happy with it, i've noticed lately that there a a few ring marks (caused by hot coffee mugs) on the surface of the granite. I've got the absolute black granite installed and I'm confused as I thought Granite was supposed to be heat resistant?
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to get the ring marks off or should I contact the company and see what they have to say about this?
Any help on the matter gratefully recieved
thanks

I've had granite worktops for about 5 years and they are totally abused.
I put anything on them and cut on them.
They are unmarked and still look like new. I didn't think they were supposed to mark?de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
When I was looking into buying, I was advised there were different grades of granite, so maybe that means some react differently than others?
I put hot pans and all sorts onto mine, with no adverse effect, so hot coffee cups are no problem. Having said that, it was sealed well after installation and a couple of times since, just for good measure.Debbie0 -
I have pale blue granite worktops and have had some marks from coffee mugs.I was supplied (by the installers) with a kit containing cleaner, sealant and a polish.I used that and they were removed straight away.I must admit I can't complain as I have only had a couple of ring marks and they disappeared on using the kit supplied.I would get back to your supplier and ask them.0

There's a wide range of granite quality available, how heat resistant etc. they are I wouldn't want to speculate. I'd never cut directly on any worktop, laminate, granite anything! Have a read of:

when i got granite work tops fitted in august , i asked about any tips and hints i should know about he said:
Clean up any wine/vinegar immediately. Wines and vinegar are acid and will eat into the granite. This also includes wine glasses (if you have wine on the bottom of the glass) if you left it over night it the acid from the wine will create a circular mark on the granite...0 -

I was told this, too, and used to be paranoid about, say, spilling lemon juice. A few years down the line I'm far more relaxed as tbh I can't see any adverse effects to do with this. I wouldn't leave it overnight (intentionally, anyway ), but have left it for a while without worrying about mopping it up immediately.Debbie0 -

Me neither: I'd be as worried about my knives as the granite!Debbie0 -

Hi Star_Buck
We have absolute black granite work tops too but have not suffered what you are experiencing. Have you tried to polishing it out using a micro fibre cloth. You can get special polishes for granite that are not too expensive but they make a big difference in keeping the looks of the granite!
Also, is your granite work top sealed. if not then this needs to be done asap. If all fails then you should be able to call the company back out to re-buff the surface back to the original colour. Takes only a couple of minutes to do."I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0 -

Oooh, don't get me started on this one... I'm a bit of an obsessive where my knives are concerned. You just wouldn't use a good knife on a glass or stone chopping board!
