Vanquis Direct Debit & Nationwide Card

Hello,

I have two questions, so to save space, I thought I'd combine the two!

The first one is about Vanquis and their direct debit procedure. Has anyone who use them or has used them in the past, ever had their direct debit still taken after your payments fulfill the statement balance from the previous month's bill? I need to know whether to expect them to take to take it - I've made enough payments to the account to equal the statement balance, but there's still an unstatemented balance from this month so far - that balance doesn't make a difference until the next statement, so they shouldn't take my DD for this month right?

The second question is about my Nationwide card. I have a debit card with Nationwide and only those aged 17 or under can open it, I am 18 now so I am allowed to retain it until I am 23. Nationwide have said that I can upgrade to their mainstream current account, but I am quite reluctant to move as my current account offers these exclusive perks:

    • No usage fee for an arranged or unarranged overdraft.
    • No fees or charges for withdrawing abroad or using the card abroad.
    • No unpaid / returned item charges for Direct Debit payments.
    • 0% Interest rate (no time limit) on an arranged or unarranged overdraft.

If I am correct in thinking, all those perks on one account is quite good right? Nationwide's other current account packages can't compete with the same perks and since the current account operates the same as an adult one - with Direct Debit support and overdraft facilities, there isn't any reason to switch and lose out. Would you personally recommend I stay put or hop onto another account?

Someone told me that to have the same perks I've got now but on a future adult current account, I'd need to be a valued customer with a bank or pay an annual fee for an account that offers such, so it sounds like it would be a bad decision to move from the current account I have now until I am forced to at 23.

Your advice on these two questions would be most appreciated! :)

I use a Vanquis CC and usually pay around 5 or 6 days before DD due date using the app (I do usually pay in full) and they don't take the DD. If it's closer than that they have taken it, in one case refunding it immediately as it put me in credit.
