Sending A Cheque In US Dollars

Hi,

I need to send a cheque in US dollars. I bank with two banks and a building society and all three said they don't issue cheques in foreign currency. I asked for an international money order at the Post Office, but they said they only do MoneyGram now.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get a cheque in US dollars please?

Thank you,
Joe

You need a US dollar current account

There may be a better way than to pay by cheque

  • The US does seem to still use cheques an awful lot. It's weird but there are plenty of small businesses over there who want cheques only.

I have had this problem and the only solution I found was to ask an American friend to write one for me and send it to the recipient. In turn I went on to amazon.com (not .co.uk) and bought her a gift certificate for the correct amount of dollars to pay her back (she buys from there a lot and this had no fees compared to Paypal) using a no foreign transaction fee Halifax Clarity credit card. Do you know anyone there you could ask to do this for you?
