I have an open tread stair case that I wish to convert to closed tread. Would it be permissable to use flooring grade MDF fot the risers I wish to insert?
I'm aware of the requirement to overhang with at least 16mm nosing and I would be able to achieve that with the placing of the risers due to the tread depth.
I would hope to screw and glue the risers to the existing treads.
Anything else to consider?

If it was me I would use a good quality plywood.
MDF is a horrible product to use & if it ever gets wet through spillages etc it will just crumble away........

Does that apply to flooring grade MDF? What thickness of ply equivalent to 18mm MDF?0

Yes MDF of all grades is horrible stuff...........
No need to go mad with 18mm ply I would have thought 10mm would have been thick enough for the job.0
