End of Lease Inspection - Advice
Hi all,
New here, i'm hoping you can help me with my end lease as I found BVRLA to be a bit rude.
After the inspection (Thursday 19th Oct), I have 6 days before the car is picked up. If the inspector picks up on faults - can I choose to have these repaired 'locally' in the time before it's picked up? I've heard of horror stories with people receiving large bills at the end of lease.
It's a VW Up! on a 3 year lease (this has been my 1st car).
- I had a small dent repaired at VW (£100) on my rear bumper, now good as new.
- There are a few stone chips to the front bumper where the paint has chipped off. Size of a match head or smaller. Can I dispute these if picked up on?
- 2 small chips in the windscreen near the middle but still drivers side (BVRLA asked if i had had this repaired...i can only presume my insurance company let them know as i have never spoken to BVRLA before?) That's made me think i need to get it replaced through my insurance as the inspector will definitely notice it (Direct Line/Autoglass said new windscreen, not just a repair..£75).
- Few scuff marks on right wing mirror from one of my first drives out (plastic so i don't think this can be covered?) Are they likely to say I need a completely new wing mirror?
It's booked in for a full valet tomorrow, I've asked if they can do anything with the scuffs on the wing mirror.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated...I'm dreading the inspection, i don't plan on getting another lease.

Your car doesn't have to be in perfect condition, it has to be in reasonable condition, taking into consideration your 3 years (and how many miles?) of use.
The BVRLA has guidelines on what is reasonable. I don't know what they are off the top of my head, but I would certainly think stonechips would be covered.
Anyway, I would be assuming all of these WILL be picked up at inspection, and fixing them BEFORE that, not waiting until it's picked up. Yes, you're taking a gamble, but I think you already know you can probably get the repair done cheaper than they'll charge.0 -
Someone posted a link to those guidelines only a couple of weeks back so you should be able to find them. In terms of chips etc they covered size and number per panel so if you have a lot of them (even if only a match head) on one panel then they will charge for a respray of that panel. Scuffs are a big no, you will be charged for them.
As far as i am aware once they come to inspect it then its too late. You need to get it sorted before that or accept the bill from them.0 -
Just google BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear guide.0

My Golf went away on Monday when my new Insignia was delivered. (Both are lease vehicles with ALD - company car). The guy doing the return inspection said it was in such good nick that it would probably be snapped up at auction by a dealer and appear soon thereafter on a forecourt ...
... and that's even with having both nearside alloys with dings and a few paint chips on the bonnet and front bumper. (The Golf was 5.5 years old having done 70.4k miles).
tl;dr ... you should be fine.0
