Engagement ring insurance - Does it have to be in my name?

I've just purchased my partner an engagement ring, which will be a surprise proposal on holiday.
I wanted to keep the ring off the house insurance and have it on it's own separate policy as it work's out cheaper however the insurer we're looking to use asks the question;
"Have you been convicted or charged but not yet tried of any criminal offences other than a motoring offences"
The problem is I have recently been convicted of an offence and therefore they will not insure me, however my partner has not and as they do not ask if anyone else in the household has been convicted my conviction is irrelevant.
As the ring is a gift to her and will therefor become her property can I insure the ring in her name? Further, can I pay for the insurance on her behalf?
My name is on the invoice as I purchased it, however it will be her property.
