Virgin Download Speeds

Over the last two weeks speeds in Area 20 ( South of Manchester) download speeds have fallen from 200+ to 30. The Virgin / Speed forum is shows this to be widespread with many speeds in single digit. Virgin are too busy to accept contact to discuss this.
I am leaving for a responsive and smaller supplier. Any suggestions?

What makes you think a smaller supplier will be more responsive especially when they're likely to be on BT Openreach's network so relying on Openreach to repair the fault?

Unless the company has their own cable going into your property they'll be reliant on a third party (Openreach) to do the work so you are in possibly an even worse situation than you are with Virgin where at least they own the infrastructure.

A&A andrews and andrews are smallish and have outstanding support .
Next i would look at ZEN .
But as said you will be on the inferior BT OR infrastructure .

So what happens when you call them directly?

I had speed issues with Virgin earlier this year and called them up. They tested the line, said there was an issue and sent an engineer out after about 3 days. He fixed it in 5 minutes. I know you are saying the fault seems widespread but call them and get first hand information.

IME theres 2 types of issues in VM.
Basic line faults are easy to deal with.
general infrastructure issues can be slow and frustrating.

The fall from 220 to 20 started at the beginning of October. The current process is to call 150 and go through an automated response to check all connections and reboot their router. You will have done all this recently anyway to it is really just to delay you. Next time you call you get through to an Indian call center.
These people speak good English and know their jobs but their accents, work load and phone lines make it a problem. I have had two 45 minute calls while they do their thing. Nothing has improved.
Reading the Virgin Speed forum there are similar reports coming in from all parts of the country. So I guess it is general infrastructure.
In my area Virgin fiber lines were laid by Nynex and they do not use the Open Reach vans or personnel.
I object to paying for a 200+ service which has been replaced by a 20 service with no decrease in charge.

Used virgin media for over 15 years and great company and service, but no company give 100% service to 100% of their customers. Hopefully you will find a internet provider that gives you what you want but looks like recommendations are thin on the ground, which either means not enough active members in the forum or not that many of these companies are around.

No matter which one you recommend someone will trash them as a company and their CS will be rubbished.
I've been with Virgin since the old cable company sold out and never had any trouble with them.
It depends on the quality of the cabling that, in many cases, was laid by the original local cable companies. Which is one of the reasons why some areas are better than others.
