Wheel arch liners are a lot better than not having them. When was the last time you saw a 7/8/9 year old car with rotten A posts and inner wings which were commonplace in the 70s and 80s?

Yep when was the last time recently since wheel arch liners were fitted when anyone has seen the top of front wings rotted and headlights nearly falling out due to rust from mud and water being trapped there.

I can remember regularly having to fill and spray cars with rotten wings due to no protection.

Yes wheel arch liners are a good idea. At least better than letting all the road crepe and grit bounce off the underside of the wing.
My old Passat had little rot after 18 years. Just a tad of bubbling around the rear arches.
Sill covers though are another matter. I can see they promote tin worm.
