If it's the usual system then you will have filled the overflow reservoir and so any mixing of fluids will have been confined to the contents of that reservoir unless you run the engine. Syphon all the contents out and replace with 50/50 antifreeze of the correct spec. for the car ...important, that last bit, as there are a number of different antifreezes around nowadays.

Would a driver of a brand new Audi spot that? They only opened the bonnet because they were told to.
Why would anybody owning a new(ish) car expect to spend much of there time with the bonnet up, looking at the engine?
  • much of [STRIKE]there[/STRIKE] their time
So there's no need to check fluid levels etc on a new car? How much time does it take?
  • Leaving aside the grammatical error, I said much time not any time. In any case there may well not be a dipstick for the oil level at it is displayed 'in car'.

However the screen wash bottle and coolant expansion tank should look sufficiently different!

Why does a brand new car even need the coolant topping up?

Going off-topic as OP wasn't trying to top their coolant up, but it can happen.

We have a 66-reg Skoda Superb. After about six months, the coolant light came on. Checked and the coolant was indeed low. Took it in to Skoda who refilled it and checked for leaks (none). They told us - and Google has confirmed since - that a a one-off drop in the first 10,000 miles happens sometimes, when there's some air in the system from manufacture that works its way through? My car had trapped wind. :rotfl:

Also happened to a friend with a new BMW.

Level hasn't moved in ours since it was refilled. *shrug*

Perhaps they were. In which case, taking the lid off and seeing that the level was high would have been a strong clue that it was the wrong reservoir, would it not?
    Or even RTFM first?
New car, personally I'd do as others have suggested, syphon off the contents of the header, replace with correct stuff, then get the lot changed as soon as possible.
