Quickly skimming through the thread ....I can't see that anyone has suggested it yet...but get some HG Mould spray to clean the affected areas with....it should prove better than using washing up liquid.....homebase amazon and even some supermarkets sell it....although read the label and make sure the areas are ventilated after use as it could affect your asthmatic housemate when treating the areas.
Anything that helps to remove excess moisture or water should help ease the problem....even a squeegy window cleaner for in the shower area for all to just wipe down after use will help prevent water build up and limescale.....and regular cleaning.
It could be lifestyle or it could be issues around the property...but you do need to try and combat the problem as you will be living there for probably at least another 6 months.
You say you have a lack of extractor fans in the kitchen and bathroom....I assume then that these areas have windows that can be opened in the fans absence?
TBH.....fans probably wont solve the problem as they may need to run for some considerable time to make a huge difference.
Did you have a check in inventory with pictures....do any of them show the now affected areas?
What age is the property....and is it in generally good repair?
If there is a detrimental effect on your housemates health, has she spoken to her doctor about the increased medication or just upped the dosage....as an asthmatic myself I know the types of things that trigger my symptoms and would suggest that she speaks to the asthma nurse at the next check point for some more guidance going forward.
I also have a son in HMO private rental in his university city....and know that the type of problems you are facing are certainly not unique.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0
