I joined facebook purely to join a couple of groups I'm interested in. This I have done successfully.
I don't want 'friends'. As you facebook experts are well aware, so called potential 'friends' keep popping up. Some I know some I don't.
My concern is, I don't want to offend my actual fiends by not accepting them. Do they actually apply to be friends or is it just some facebook trickery without their knowledge?

Only actual friend requests are initiated by your 'actual fiends'.
Everything else is just based on a 'people you may know' alogorithm.0 -
Use a different name? Facebook have asked me to verify accounts because they dont think my name is real. I just create another one. Odd that the one they wanted ID for starts working again a few months later.
Thats names with numbers in it
Use a name where the people in the groups will know its you but friends wont.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Anyone can send you a friend request. Just delete them, lots of people use FB like you & don't have "friends". FB's suggested "friends" can just be ignored.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Just spell your name a bit differently, seems very much the fashion anyway, Martyn or Soosan for instanceWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
And also if you do get sent friend requests and decline them, the person concerned won't be notified. Indeed the only clue they'll have is when they come back to either your profile and see "send friend request" or when your name disappears off their friend requests link.
Facebook is built heavily around the concept of "friends", though the definition of this on the site and in real life mean two entirely different things. A "friend" on Facebook might be people you work with, next door's dog or the local DJ who scraped a list of people off a page they ran before it was closed. Some of these people you probably wouldn't want to see in real life anymore than you really have to.0
