Hi - I'm self-employed and I'm wandering how people prepare proof of income statements on a monthly basis to claim Universal Credit. I haven't had to do my accounts before since I don't earn enough to file a self-assessment tax return. Any recommendations on tools I could use to do this? Does anyone use accounting software / excel or is there something people have found more useful? Thanks for your advice.

You have to register with HMRC as self-employed and fill in a self-assessment no matter how much you earn from your self-assessment. You can do that on a cash basis.
A simple spreadsheet in excel would work for you to record your income/expenditure.
