Replacing toilet flushing system

I know little to nothing about toilets but one of my loos’ is not filling up with water as much and thus the flush is weak and ineffective.
I have looked at how to replace the parts and they cost little and I have YouTubed how to but is it a small simple at it looks? I have called a plumber but his lack of enthusiasm was painful.
My toilet is over 10yrs old and no idea where it came from so would a new set from Screwfix fit and work??
Any advice appreciated.

have you tried adjusting it so it fills up more.
  • Unfortunately it cannot adjust - it clearly was able to but it’s stuck and I cannot move it without breaking it. I asked my neighbour, who is a DIY expert, to have a look and and he could not do it either!

A new flush from screwfix is likely to fit, but it might be better to remove the old one and take it to Screwfix, B&Q or a local plumbers merchant to make sure you get one that will fit.

I'd suggest you ask your neighbour to help you fit it.

When I had a problem with the inner workings of a toilet I photographed the inside of the cistern and took it to a local plumbers merchant. They were very helpful and identified the fault. The new parts were less than a tenner and I managed to fit it myself as the instruction given were good.

Flushes and inlet valves on UK toilets are a standard size.

The most important thing to note is whether it is a closed coupled system. Post some images on here and we can advise further.
